Thread: Expansion Cost!

  1. #1

    Thumbs down Expansion Cost!

So we can finally expand. If we want to spend real money to do it. Does Playdom really thing that having 45 neighbors, the number required to expand with silver, is realistic? 45 neighbors!!!!!!!! It's quite plain to see that this is a ploy to MAKE us have to spend our hard earned money on a game to be able to enjoy it. It is virtually impossible to earn the gold required to expand, with only one gold per level. So what's up Playdom, do we have to pay cash to enjoy your game? If so, I will be looking at the new hidden objects games. I'm the only one of my friends who has even gone as high in levels as I have, the rest left.

There are lots of forums and groups for finding neighbours so no need to spend money on this.

True. I have well over 105 neighbors and maybe 5 out of that group are real friends. I haven't had one issue with anyone and if I ever do it's really simple to delete and block a person. It's also quite simple to make a list for GOT people only and to choose 'games' posts from them and nothing else. If I want to see any game posts from my GOT neighbors I do it with a click of a button. I'm proud to say that I haven't spent one real dime on this game and the gold that I have is from completing chapters and doing surveys.

The only friends I want on FB are friends in real life. I don't think you should be forced to pay to play, or have 45 people on your friends list that you don't know. I don't have enough time to make 45 "friends" into neighbors or go looking for them in forums. We have to look at advertising, that should be enough. JMHO

Moondance, if you plan on leveling up to lvl 90, you will find that you need more neighbors anyway, even after you have the 45 required to expand your garden. The only way to have enough rep in your garden to open new chapters is to upgrade all your buildings, and for that you need lots of good, active neighbors to send you the requested materials. I don't see how anyone could play this game UNLESS they had at least 50 neighbors, and all of those 50 would have to be actively playing every day.

I have looked into and tried a couple of other hidden object games and one in particular you do need neighbors in that one as well. If anything it requires just as much, if not more, dependence upon 'neighbors' to further your progress, hence the term 'social game'.

I felt the same way when I was first playing GoT - I only wanted my 'real' friends on FB. However, got hooked (love the game, when it works! ) so I finally went to the "add neighbors" thread on this board and now have just over 200. I could have had many more than that, but 200 is barely manageable so I had to quit accepting new neighbors.

It's made the game much more fun! I have no problem getting materials to make building upgrades, garden expansions, etc. About 60 of my neighbors play at least 5 days out of 7, the rest not quite as often but are still active enough to be fun playing with (I play daily).

I did turn 'subscriptions' off for almost all my 200 GoT friends so I don't get their newsfeeds or wall posts - that was more than I could handle

I feel the same way. I keep my neighbors around 50 though. I use a GOT list and it's all good. And turning my neighbors' subscription to games only and only important updates is a BIG help. My non-irl neighbors almost never show up in my feed. I will say I have been surprised by how many neighbors I've met and liked because of this game. So that's cool.

Only one person did I have to defriend. I give gifts in gardens only for the energy. I do not expect anything in return. I don't even bother hiding the gift. I always put it by the time machine so it is the first thing you see when you enter your garden. This woman would LOSE HER MIND because she didn't want me to leave her a present unless she left me one. I told her I didn't care but she got all mad anyway. I stopped leaving presents and she got mad at that. I don't want to have to keep up with that but I did. Then she got mad b/c I hid the present in plain view. She demanded that I hide it well so she could look for it. Whaaaaaaaaat? Zealot has other thangs to do!

She also used a lot of capital letters and punctuation when she messaged me. She was good with requests and all but I dropped her like a bad habit.

Back to the topic, I like the way I have things set up. I don't even get crystal requests in my newsfeed. It only shows up on my GOT list. That's nice and easy to handle.

I have no time for that nonsense. I pity da fool.

I have to agree on the meeting really cool people through this game. I was hesitant to add "strangers" at first, too, but realized it was truly the only way I was going to get the most out of the game. So I figured out my security settings, and added away. Most of my BEST neighbors are folks I met just through the forums. I wouldn't trade them for the world! And...please don't hate me for saying this...lol...but this crystal stuff really HAS upped the social aspect of the game. Lots of working together, strategizing, chatting outside the game, etc. It's been a lot of fun IMHO, even with the kinks. To me, it's just another part of the game-play - figure out a new "mystery" and how to maximize the benefit.

Zealot - that neighbor you describe.... Man, I'd have a tough time with that one! Can't blame you for de-friending! I only ever de-friended one neighbor, too. That person was so caught up in who was and wasn't sending a gift every single day. I'm usually pretty good about gifting. I try my darnedest to at the very least, send to everyone who has sent to me by utilizing RtF. But, honestly, with over 100 neighbors, you can only do what you can do. This person would go on and on on her wall about how she couldn't believe how SOME people had the nerve to send requests for materials, but not send them. Even though I was pretty sure I wasn't one of the people she was talking about, she got sooo personal and started attacking some of our mutual neighbors and jumping to conclusions and getting genuinely upset about it - even during times when gifting was a global problem across the board. I didn't like all that negativity or feeling on eggshells about making sure she was getting a gift each day. So I removed her. I had plenty of other neighbors. That's not what this game is for!!

Some people will just never realize they can only control themselves, so they need to set up their processes the way that works best based on what they know about how people play. Can't expect people to bend to you, the world just doesn't work that way. *sigh* Oh well. I have such great neighbors, didn't bother me for long!

I only have one neighbor that I almost deleted and blocked but only because he's a married man hitting on me in message. He's at strike two now. I don't have time for that kind of crap or drama. I'm too old for that.
