Defensive units disappearing...

I've tried looking around, but can't seem to find the information that I am looking for... so I'll explain and ask here...

The problem: Basically,.. My defensive units keep disappearing... forcing me to keep adding more and more to my defense... (and it's not that my level is increasing, and I can add more units - I've already taken that into account - I am missing actual units - for example, I made certain that I had 10 Gnome Archers and 50 Crossbow Men on my defense yesterday, now I have only 2 Gnome Archers, and only 37 Crossbow Men today)

The Question: Is this supposed to be happening... for example, if someone uses "my" troops to defend my city, do I really lose the troops that are lost in the battle? - It would seem to be logical, and make since that way,... But...

I had a friend tell me that he's never replaced any of his defensive units... so I was wondering, has all of his defensive units been killed, and he has none? - How exactly does this work?...

I think, as i know, you lose defensive troops when someone attacks you in raid battles, that's the point of everything. You aren't the only one who's losing troops by the way, everyone else does

Ah,... since I couldn't find the information anywhere that I searched,... I wasn't aware that it worked that way...

My friend isn't in a guild, he plays by himself - and I'm in a guild that attacks ALOT, so I'm in quite a few defensive battles... that would explain why I am loosing troops and he's not, I guess...

I don't think it is through guild battles defensive troops are lost. I think it is through raids.

So then, what happens when all of your troops on defense die?... I find it nearly impossible to believe that Johnny has never been raided, while I am getting raided all the time?... He told me that he's never added any more troops to his defense than the minimum amount that the game made him add near the beginning...

If that's true... and he's not yanking my chain... and he's never added any more,... and all of his troops have been killed,... then does that mean that he has a "0%" defense, and only miners spawn when he is attacked?

If so,... then what's the point of having a defense at all?... Is there some benefit to it that I am not aware of?...

Basically,... why would I want to waste any of my troops on defense - I'm not losing any of my own stored up silver when someone raids me, am I?

Is there any reason for me to keep adding troops to defense?

If you have less then the minimum amount of troops in your defense you won't be able to attack, do battles or even access the challenge mode, and no you won't be attacked in that way. And from your defense you earn some good silver and xp, you may even win 3000 xp and that's not bad
If you add some strong troops to your defense you will not loose because when players see your high % they won't attack you

But i like to attack someone with higher % defence coz they give me more silver

Hmm... That probably means that Johnny's lying to me about never adding more troops then... otherwise, he couldn't be doing the missions or anything... I'll have to go over to his house and kick him in the posterior...

No, doing missions do not need to meet minimum defense.
