Playdom, Good Way to Make Money:

Hey,

I think weapons should be able to be made 'gold' weapons that grow with level by paying a gold fee:
Not sure how to fairly determine to gold price, but maybe basing it on the power level of the weapon? Like, 1/5 of the weapon power level?
I know this is a very powerful adjustment, so it cant be too cheap, but I don't think it should be something stupid like 50 gold to transform taste of thunder, lol.

I think this would also provide people with a big incentive to purchase gold so it could be a decent move for Playdom.

Thoughts?

Nope. This is not a good method. Cos that means that a guy can make its favourite weapon scale with his level and never have to worry about getting another weapon ever again. Playdom will never do this. If anything, all the new weapons are customized, which means that playdom wants us to grow out of those weapons eventually as we level so that we will buy new ones.

Seems unlikely, playdom makes the lions share of income from advertising. Thus being a "free" game. Could happen if they do a premium game like WOW, but unlikely.

having upgradeable weapons in-game is not a bad idea at all...

Even in WOW, weapons don't scale. They are fixed in power. Exceilser type weapons are actually very powerful due to the scaling. Part strategy for playdom I think is to introduce new items into the game we would be temped to buy for gold. Its power creep, but it happens with every game. Its happening for the uniforms now. The new avengers uniforms are powerful but limited time only, so they start to introduce more alt uniforms for other classes which are themselves outright more powerful than the original uniforms.

Putting in more content like chapter 8 actually doesn't help their bottom line. You won't buy gold in order to play chapter 8. But introducing special ops, limited time items does benefit because people can and will buy gold to get them (cos there is no time to farm for it).

This would only be productive in short term investment for playdom. In the long run the guy couldve bought 300g for 5 weapons but only cost around 100 for 20 level ups of his favorite weapon. And this would completely disseminate the existence of "Customized"

I would use gold to update the customized weapons to your current lvl :P
I have leveled a lot and now my Target Pistol is not that useful and I can't get another one now
so paying to update it would be nice

Also, IMHO Customized is great way to make sure no limited weapon stays overpowered for too long. And with their slowly decreasing efectiveness, limited weapons entice players to buy another one...

Anyway, one more point is that it would be more interesting. Let's say in future, Playdom comes out with SBP version 2. More powerful! More killy, it even looks prettier! And they can give it a fancier name. Now they can call it Ultimate Blade Punch! They can make tons of money selling the new weapon, as opposed to making it such that you just pay X gold to upgrade your existing super blade punch to a higher level where the stats are essentially the same as the ultimate blade punch. And that means that in the far future, they still have the option to introduce the Infinity blade punch! Isn't it more interesting to get a new weapon, with fancier graphics, another name as opposed to using that same weapon forever and just upgrading it with gold to a higher level all the time?
