I have to disagree on the idea that Kitty wouldn't be able to sneak up on him. There are many ways she could. I mean just going underground he would have no idea where she was coming up at. She could go underground and come up behind a rock for instance just high enough to see where he is then go back under and come up directly into him, or come up in a tree the same way. Other ones that wouldn't have a problem with him...Invisible Woman(she can create force fields inside objects, even organic objects and expand them until they explode), any hero that uses telepathy(Xavier, Psylocke, Jean Grey just to name a few), Magneto or Polaris, simply pull the shield out of his hands with their mastery of magnetism and repeatedly bash him with it or other metal objects...just to name a few.

Dude, if any hero hits any hero by surprise, nearly every fight is over. Of course I'm going with the premise that whoever's fighting's knowing the other is coming.

Basic fight rules:
1) both know they're in for a fight, don't know against who
2) bringing only the usual gear that they usually do
3) in a battlefield all for themselves (may depend on who's fighting who) --> biggest factor when doing ceteris paribus

In a straight-up fight, Cap can nearly _always_ bring his shield up in time. One of the reasons why Thor respects him.

Thats all of course assuming that he could get his shield up in time. Especially if they surprised him. And he has only taken those hits with his shield up. If he doesn't know they are coming and they surprise him then yes, one hit would take him out. And like I said, I don't have anything against him, I actually like him but I have to face reality here.

Those were golden age stuff. They no longer show him doing those as free actions of his. Not even as plot anymore.

He's not as strong as being able to rip a robot's arm anymore or redirect a missile, but he's more than whatever the descriptions say --> which is mostly based on the Marvel Manual.

No one has ever bothered to define what "peak human capacity" is. They just dumb him down to be some regular Joe. Not saying he's stronger than Hulk or Thor. Cap personally admits he can't beat them but he can slow them down

I thought of something else also. I'm not saying Captain America is weak by any stretch of the imagination. You have to think what the phrase "peak of human perfection" means. If you think about it, there have been normal everyday people that have lifted 3 and 4 ton vehicles through a surge of adrenaline and that is far from the "peak of human perfection". So I wouldn't have a hard time believing that a person at the "peak of human perfection" could "Redirect a missile flying at a good 100miles an hour or more with your bear hands, when it is aimed directly at you" without having to have superpowers. I still wouldn't bet on him over some of the other characters but I'm not saying he is weak.

I was just going through the Marvel XP that is tied into the game and noticed this:

Powers: Thanks to the “super soldier” treatment he received in the 1940s, the Captain’s physical abilities have been enhanced to the peak of human potential.

So even the game agrees that he isn't superhuman, simply the peak of human potential.

Not really sure what to say here. If you don't accept Marvel's Official page about Captain America then I don't know what you would accept. I can't bring myself to go strictly by the comics because they change so often. Including various characters powers and abilities changing issue to issue. I've read quite a few comics in my day, granted not so much over the past few years, and while I do remember Cap being strong and able to redirect missiles, I would have to disagree about his feats being superhuman. In my mind his feats were no more than any other normal human could do if they were at the peak of human perfection. If anyone else could do it being at the peak of human perfection then it isn't superhuman. I'm not saying he isn't strong, but Thor is a god.

And like I said before, it isn't that I dislike Captain America. I actually like him. I just like things to be more realistic, and a human(even a perfect one) could never defeat a god.
