Gifting Question: Is there a way to gift just any item, only special items, or gold?

I'm sure this must have been answered before, but I poked around and searched a bit and didn't find an answer. Is there a way to gift just about anything? My question chiefly stems from trying to help neighbours with gold, and once the Collections option kicked in, trying to gift collection items to neighbours not having the items on their Wish List but which I know for a fact they would appreciate having. And if we can't gift gold, is there a way to gift 'retired' premium items I may have multiple copies of but a good neighbour has none of, simply buying the item for them? Thanks for any help.

As far as I know, you can only gift items on someone's wish list. If you want to give them gold, you can buy them Facebook credits which they can exchange for gold. And you can't give away anything in your inventory. Not very social, is it?
