You have to have 20 and it takes like 4 days and makes only one. Very frustrating!

Yes, sunflower23 is correct. I highly believe it's 20 polished metals you need. Once you have the requirement amount (20), then click the forge, the game will complete the quest automatically. The forge recognizes that you have 20 polished metals.

Please can someone tell me how many pieces of polished metal you need to use it :( pref without having to buy the 5 pack offered with gold !!! as if this is the only method what is the point of being able to gift/receive the metal as a gift.
Thanks

It takes 20 pieces of polished metal to forge one machete. Once you have 20 pieces in your inventory just click the forge and it automatically uses them to start making the machete. =)

I agree, it does take WAY too long for the machete forge to be ready, but so do most of the items. I'm really not sure how much longer I want to play a game that takes this long. And some of the quests (Harvest 55 blackberries, in particular) are ridiculous when it takes a day and a half to plant, water and then harvest just 1. Even if all of your workers are harvesting, this is an incredibly long period of time to wait. It's cute, but boring as heck while waiting...

ok so that answers my question as to how many i need to use the forge but ALL THOSE HOURS????? I agree with the above two comments as interest starts to wane the longer you have to wait. Would be nice if we all had deep pockets then there would be no problems.

20 polished metal and you end up with one machete? How realistic is that? Seems unfair you have to wait all that time, collect all that polished metal to get one, why is it not at least four or five? Seems unfair and unbalanced to me? Any chance this will change to give us more matchetes ?:)

My daughter and I both play GT and my daughter has completed a mission where she received the forge and a load of silver to make her own machetes. I am further along in the game yet I haven't been given the mission, nor do I have the forge in my inventory.

I assume the mission is new but can anyone tell me when/if I will get the mission so that I can make machetes. The lack of them is the only part of the game that drives me utterly insane, I just never seem to have any anymore so I'm finding it difficult to progress as most of my tasks are requiring me to 'explore' and even when I have done, the tasks are not completing...grr!

It is believed that the quests/missions that come up next depends on what you did in GnomeTown, or it may be the case that it's randomized.

Hey Gnomes!

Right now, the methods above are the only ways besides the forge (not everyone has that quest so you're one of the lucky ones). Those, and buying more.

Dont know about anyone else but I have spent 2 sessions of 48 hours each making machetes and at the end ot it both times after buying 5 silver each time ended up with SFA

I am having the same problems as Chatty. I can't buy machetes--not enough what ever it is--to do so. I have extra metal--but it will let it go to the Anvel. Really liked this game until this. Really thinking I would be able to get more accomplished with the anvell and being able to make machetes. NOT

yes the machete making is slow and 1 machete every 2 days is not a big help. We could only wish the devs would listen to the players and do something about this before everyone quits playing. Already alot of my neighbors have just stopped playing, no room on their town to even leave a food platter.

Let's keep this thread on top!!!

I too--have spent money on purchasing GOLD--just so I can buy Machete's....now--I don't mind paying once in awhile...but.......1 machete after 2 days on the forge is silly. So we need to be able to purchase them with silver--even at a high price or earn them from other ways.....hard to keep moving forward and enjoying this game/world without machete's!

I have invested real money and time--a nice pass time--but I will move on soon as well over specifically this machete thing.....

Everyone PLEASE post your remarks, ideas/suggestions here...maybe if enough do they can make some adjustments.....I play on Facebook....

Gold for machetes is one of the deliberate money grab things for Playdom. It's how they make money from the game. So, I won't totally knock them for that. However, the disparity between what players are paying for machetes is wrong. Some still only have to pay 7 gold (I'm at 14), some other have to pay a whopping 56 gold.

For me, 14 is the highest I'm going to accept to have to pay for gold. If it rises above that on me, I'll be leaving this game quicker than I would have wanted to.

I know Playdom rose prices to make more money, but also to slow the progress of players down some. Some players have progressed so far in the game (being at mid 40 levels and higher) that there is nothing left for them to do and Playdom isn't able to catch up to that yet. By making the machetes more expensive, unless you the player keep pouring money into the game, you're not going to be exploring as quickly and leveling up as fast. This gives Playdom more time to come up with quests, other buildings (that cost gold), and so on.

So I do see the reasoning for them upping the cost. I just think it should be fair across the board for everyone. If anything, I can see the cost of gold going up as you progress in the game. That would slow players down a bit that get to higher levels. But I do think it needs to be consistent, make sense, and not be TOO expensive. At most 10 machetes shouldn't cost more than half of what your current level is (with a minimum of 7 gold). So if you're a level 50, then it would cost 25 gold for 10 machetes. I'm a level 35, so it could cost me 17-18 gold per 10 pack of machetes. Again, if it were consistent like that across the board for everyone, then we'd all know what to expect and it would be fair for everyone.

Respectfully,
JMS

The machete forge I have makes them in 24 hours and only takes 10 polished metal. I spend just under 4000 in food to speed up the process and in less then a minute I have quite a few machetes. I haven't made any in a couple of days since I really don't need to do any searching or expanding right now.

my machete forge makes me work on it for 48 hours and i have to spend 20 polished metal. i have 3 quests and cant do them becuz they require machetes. one machete every 48 hours suck especially if i chop forest and only find 1 pile of leaves and then have to wait two more days just to do it again. i am not buying 10 machetes for 56 gold. i wish they would put the machetes back at 10 for 7 gold. i enjoyed playing the game then. now not so much.

I agree, as I think almost everyone does, about the machete problem. If we had access to more machetes or at least more consistent machetes, then that would make playing WAY more fun. I'm getting to that point in the game where everyone's at in which I don't want to play anymore because of the lack of being able to do ANYTHING other than hope for machetes. It's really pathetic.
I wouldn't mind the 2 day wait as much for the forge if we got maybe like 10 machetes! Or, if it's a 1 day wait, if we got 5 at least. First of all, it was not stated that we'd get only 1 machete out of this forge (in the description) and it didn't say how long you'd need to wait for said machete(s).

I agree the 48 hours for one machete does seem a lot, especially as you really need to save up at least between 3 and 7 machetes before you start hacking away at the thorny bushes, meaning you can have a 2-week wait just to expand your borders a little.
The new Fortress quests are fun, and provide a lot of much-needed machetes, but all of those machetes (and more, in my experience) are used up in searching for pieces to build the fortress (Stone Lantern, 4 Petrified Mushrooms, Baking Rack, etc...). It would be better if at the end of building the Fortress you had more machetes than when you started.

I really think the devs at playdom need to have to sit there and play this game like everyone else does. See how frustrated they get with not being able to get anywhere in it. You should not have to pay real cash in a game in order to advance but basically we end up doing so just to get machetes. Insted of having us pay gold for machetes let us use a different means and save our gold so we can buy some of the other items they have for sale. Right now I bet they are not selling very many other items for gold because everyone is having to use it for machetes. I think they thought bringing the games to FB would make them alot of money and it could if managed properly however the way they do it makes everyone leave. There are lots of games out there that do well where people buy other items because they don't have to use their cash for game play. Wise up playdon before you drive everyone away.

That is a fabulous idea! Having worked on games in the past, I know that it's easy to get stuck behind the source code and forget what it's like to play. Every game developer should try playing their own games - there should be a law forcing them to do so... :D

I'm one of the unfortunate that playdom is asking to pay 56 gold for a 10 pack of machetes.... well.. 52 gold is $5.. so that leaves paying up $10 for just 1 (10) pack of machetes.. Playdom.. I know you've gotta support yourselves.. but WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!.. not to mention.. while building the fortress finding the 4 petrified mushrooms given i've used all 7 of my machetes I had left and didn't find a 1! I'm certainly not going to pay $30 to complete my fortress.. I'd rather spend my money buying whatever it is that the person who came up with this idea is smoking! At least make it fair.. or somewhat more reasonable.. I'd be willing to wait 48 hrs for 2 machetes from the forge.. or even give me 2 machete's when I level up.. which at some levels.. I believe I didn't receive any.. or maybe that's just annoyance talking... In either case.. I've paid $$ to play this game.. but I believe if this isn't corrected soon.. another game developer shall be the beneficiary of any more I wish to spend

Why?A forge normally needs 20 Polished Metal to make a machete, but you can receive them as gifts from your friends. If you send Polished Metal to all your friends, then may just click the 'Return the Favour' button, giving you Polished Metal in return.

However my partner has a blacksmiths and can now buy a forge as well. But for 199 gold who would.

The forge quest is usually done at about level 8 or 9. It has nothing to do with the Blacksmith. If you are a long way past that, you haven't had the quest, and won't get the forge.
I haven't seen it offered for 199 Gold though, but wouldn't be interested in paying that much for it anyway. It's barely worth having when it's free, as it takes so long to make a machete.

if you get the friend to forge the machetes and you click to get the pause. it states dwarves arent the only ones who can work the forge. turn ten polished metal into a machete. well the gold i need is 56. which doesnt make sense since i went into my daughters account and hers uses 7. i have 293 polished metal in my inventory but nowhere does it say forge machates . pleas make up your minds on how to do this and let me know how

Unfortunately, that's the only option left to get machetes - you buy them. Playdom support does explain ways to obtain machetes though (click here (http://support.playdom.com/entries/20242143-what-are-machetes-and-how-do-you-get-more-in-gnome-town)); Ways to obtain gold, click here (http://support.playdom.com/entries/20242542-how-do-i-get-more-gold-bars-in-gnome-town).

May I ask a question? What level are you? Maybe you haven't reached the forge quest yet. :)

Saving them is the best idea horseangel.

Most of the quests take 3-4 machetes to find what you are seeking.

As a tip, be careful about putting crops, buildings too close to the edge of your forest.
More than once I mis-clicked (is that a word..), ended up clearing more forest and using a precious machete instead of harvesting a crop, or collecting on a building.
It is blooming annoying when that happens, even if it is your own error lol

i dont buy anything online so i guess i wont be getting very many machetes for this gnome town game. which isnt fair in my opinion, they should make it easier to get machetes besides buying them for those who dont buy anything online because 1) they dont use credit cards and 2) dont trust the internet with such personal information as debit card information...too many hackers in the world and our debit card(from our checking account) was already hacked once and we didnt even use it online.we had a mess to clear up on our card and in our checking account because somehow someone hacked it. so there is no way im ever going to use it online for any kind of purchases.
so this buying gold to buy machetes is a total mess if you ask me, its not right for people like me who dont buy anything online, and what about teenagers ( i have one who plays this game too mostly to send me stuff i need tho) who cant buy things online. its so not right to make everyone have to buy gold to buy machetes in order to play this game.
