View Full Version : What Size should the Pics in the Glam Suggestion Thread Be?
Kamelita
06-23-2011, 02:36 PM
Most people (I think) hate the fact that in the old glam suggestion thread, any size of pictures could be posted. They were often huge and took forever to load and forever to scroll through. So, what size would you prefer to see over here?
240x320
or
480x 640???
Pros for smaller: Easily loadable and viewable
Cons for smaller: Hard to see details in pics
Input is welcomed!

I like the smaller one a lot due simply to the size, but I will concede that for the purpose of this thread, the bigger one is necessary to view detail.

I just want to add the suggestion to make them clickable if they're small.
Pros: Best of both worlds, size wise
Cons: More work
You may make your img clickable, like this.
http://i51.tinypic.com/ubgci.png
Or use the built in clickable thumbnail link from photobucket and other image hosts
Below is the clickable thumbnail, it's tiny but easy to do as it's right there in photobucket.

Then that is the 2nd pic she posted clickable to see the first, more work and 2 pics needed.

I prefer the bigger ones because I'm too lazy to either make the pic clickable or to go off site. I like it all where I can see it :o!! I think that's a nice image size and still keeps things light enough for the majority of people. Then again, I'm not fussy either way :)

I am kind of indifferent, but for me, smaller is always better.

I think if you really want something in the game, then you will take the effort of making the thumbnail and such.
If it's done that way, I think it will weed out the excess of suggestions of people just posting pictures of pretty dresses that they might not even want out of boredom.

I don't think it'd be stupid to go through the effort. You're already doing that in the first place by taking the time to find the images, copy the url, then put it up on the forum. I think it's different with something like a game because that is boredom, but if someone is getting their items picked for being in the game and they don't even want it, then I think that is unfair to the people who are carefully picking their items because they genuinely want it.
I'm certainly not against posting glam pictures. True, I've never been one to post, but I have indeed looked through the threads. I hope I'm not coming off as discouraging but some people post their pictures one by one instead of side by side so they can give their own commentary on why they want it or something. If you have 15 pictures at 640 height, thats almost 10000 pixels to scroll through for just one person. That's a bit of scrolling for someone who likes to casually look at pictures. That's a lot of information that needs to be loaded. When I'm bored, I like to look through these threads on my phone, there my screen is even smaller.
I'm just speaking for myself. The policy isn't going to be based on what I like, it's going to be based on what the majority prefers. I think a major step was already taken with the lack of individual wishlists and I'm happy with that. Will it kill me to stop looking in these threads? No. And if it comes to that, I'll take it, but for now I'm just saying what I think so people can see the other side or see support. I think there is plenty of value for bigger pictures, but I just don't want them.

What if there was a smaller limit on the number of pictures allowed in a post for this thread? Say, that they could have the bigger pictures but they could only post 5 per post and no more than 2 posts in a row? Personally, I think the bigger pictures show more detail and it sounds complicated to make the images clickable (or maybe I just have no idea what I'm doing). Already having to upload everything to photobucket first is pain, but I understand why it is necessary. I think limiting people somewhat also will help them to think more seriously about what they are suggesting and stop the thread from being spammed, or at least lessen the spamming.

I agree.. I guess it's just as normal.. people who spam ruin it for the people that don't. I was always very careful with my wishlist, and only put things in there that I loved, thought would translate well, and would buy, but I never uploaded every image to photobucket, much less resize it, but I can totally 100% see both sides here.

This is very true, at least for me.
But what bothers me more than pic size is people who post 15 images, all different sizes in one long row. Then you have to not only scroll OVER but also up and down. So a few things to add for whoever ends up making the next thread.
Google's "medium" image search option seems to find images right around the bigger size (400ish - 600ish). Even better, on the left side bar you can click to show image sizes. You could possibly find what you want already in the right size. Or of you're not looking for anything specific you could look for things with sizes close to what would be nice for others :p
I think it's important to add that pictures come in many dimensions so maybe the size should not be given as a "pictures must be ___" but rather a "Pictures MAX must be ___"
Anyhow, this is what I was talking about with the google searches
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y30/wickeddragon/goog.png
More important than us limiting sizes is posters being respectful of other people. Members use a large variety of place to look at the forum, from a speedy computer to a sloooooow phone.
Oh and it's easy enough to see a pic that is too big (I liked that short pink style) and google the pic url (that one was called 'short pink emo hair' and find a pic already sized down) took me a few seconds and was much easier (for me) than saving and uploading to photobucket to resize.

I think I actually have, I had picked the smaller b/c you can link to a bigger one and it wouldn't clutter but even better than that I like the idea of limiting how many you post/day. I've seen people post the max pics per post 4 or 5 or more posts in a row. When you do that AND they're ginormous it makes it hard to enjoy the thread.

AND I changed my mind on it being max :p lol.
